Every student needs awesome business cards
Does the “internship application blues” have you down? It’s a common frustration. After sending in file after file and pdf after pdf, most students are tired of applying to positions and ready to give up! However, don’t throw in the towel quite yet-we’ve got a solution that will help you stand out from the crowd!
While applying for internships, make yourself memorable with business cards.
Not For the Jack Donaghy’s Among Us Anymore
Dismiss those stereotypes associated with business card use, because Jack Donaghy is not the only one using business cards anymore. While many think that cards are simply for the old time business professionals among us, in reality almost everyone has been using business cards to their advantage!
“In nearly every industry-from world changing non-profits to early stage startups business cards are used regularly. Even volunteers at the Red Cross use business cards. This is not a business school thing, it is a I am no longer thinking like a student thing” says Nathan Parcells, CMO of InternMatch.
Why They Matter
Businesses know that while hiring interns, they’re coming in with very little experience. The greatest fear of any manager is completely unprofessional and untrained interns who must learn job associated basics and etiquette.
Business cards dispel those fears, because let’s face it: most students don’t have them. With your cards, you’re showing an employer that you are trained, in the know, professional, and that you “get it.” You’re ready to contribute, rather than endlessly learn basics!
Business cards also provide an opportunity for you to brand yourself (not in the cattle raising sense, y’all.) With a customized card that speaks to what you do and what you’re interested in, you’re putting forth a cohesive idea of who you are as a person and why you’re right for the job. You’re developing a carefully cultured identify-and the mere fact that you’ve taken the effort to do show displays skill and professionalism to an employer! And for more information, and an excellent example of student branding, check out Matthew Epstein’s “Google Please Hire Me” venture!
And They’re Really Fun
Let’s be honest – creating business cards is first and foremost really entertaining! Devising designs and choosing pictures and layout is fun for any student, and when it contributes to your professional development, it’s guilt free.
So spend some time visiting PrintSavage.com. When attending career fairs, recruiting events, or simply meeting individuals, pass your cards out and take their cards, too! It’s a great opportunity to avoid the internship blues, and push your career forward!
Mobile phone apps are becoming more common then magazines now a days. Almost every corporate business have a app. Let us create an app for you! Head over to our Contact page to get more information on pricing and what we can do for you! Below are some helpful iPhone apps for small businesses!
Editor’s Note: Last year one of our most popular articles of the year was written by Shara Karasic, who pointed out 10 small-business apps for the iPhone. The response was so enthusiastic, that we invited Shara back for an even bigger and better roundup of apps for entrepreneurs and small-business execs this year. And who better than Shara to contribute this article — she lives, breathes, sleeps and eats apps in her role with Appolicious, a community review site for mobile apps. Here in 2011 we are delighted to bring you Shara’s much bigger list of iPhone and iPad apps, organized by type of activity.
Since I listed 10 great small business apps in 2010, the use of iPhones and iPads for SMB’s has exploded in areas from business travel to communication to productivity. The office has become truly mobile. Here are must-have apps for those running and operating businesses in 2011:

More and more of our interaction online occurs on mobile devices. Over five billion mobile subscribers – about 77% of the world’s population – are online (Source: The International Telecommunication Union). This new type of simple access for consumers is catching on with a staggering amount of smartphone owners purchasing goods and services from their phone – 41% to be exact, as found in a survey by Chadwick Martin Bailey, 2011.
So how do you capitalize on this new mobile technology? The answer is relatively simple: set up a mobile application and/or set up your website to be natively friendly to mobile browsing.
Mobile Apps are internet applications designed to run on smartphones and other mobile devices. According to webopedia.com, mobile applications help users by connecting them to Internet services more commonly accessed on desktop or notebook computers. While opportunities abound, we have identified three advantages of using mobile apps for your business: speed, volume of information, and advertising.
Let’s face it, we live in a not-so-patient society. We know what we want and we want it now. Most of us can’t count the times we have sat waiting for our computers to take over one minute to boot up and have found our patience tested. Mobile Apps take the “wait” out of mobile. Since most, if not all, of the information is stored within the application, there’s no need to wait on loading information over a slow 3G connection. Plus, what little information needs to be updated can be done in the background, allowing you to access other information while you wait on the app to load. In fact, mobile apps are becoming so functional and popular among consumers, a Forrester Research report (FORR) predicted that by 2015, nearly half of all corporate-issued devices will be mobile!
Here in the US, we’re tied down by our internet speeds. While technologies for “4G” networks are growing, we’re still years behind other countries like Japan. For now, it’s just not feasible to store all your information on the internet. Mobile Apps, however, are great for storing larger amounts of information, such as videos and catalogues. And since the information is stored within the app, the user’s experience will be greatly enhanced.
Bulletin Board advertising has been long rampant. But how effective is it? Like most people, you will likely forget the majority of billboards you pass on the way to your home or office. Mobile Apps, however, provide a form of advertising that you can carry in your pocket. The good news for business owners is that this new form of marketing via mobile apps is growing fast with no sign of slowing down. Consider the fact that in 2009, a mere 23% of people owned smartphones, compared to today’s 35% (Source: Neilson). This means that one-third of Americans have the potential to be reached through mobile devices, creating a world of advertising possibilities for business owners to seize.
The main job of any design is to be noticed and remembered by your target audience. Creating a buzz around your product, cause or message is vital if you want word to spread. In some mediums it is harder than others to really stand out, but as designers it is our job to make sure that happens. One area in which we can learn alot about how to do this is Guerrilla and Ambient advertising. In this field they have skills that it takes to get noticed and remembered. Sometimes shocking, other times fun…almost always memorable.
Today lets take a look at 40 of the Most Interesting and Creative Guerrilla and Ambient Advertising Campaigns and hopefully get inspired for our next project.

Brilliant Advertising Ideas – From eHow.com
By Nicole Ayers, eHow Contributor
Brilliant advertising ideas can help make your business a success.
Brilliant advertising ideas encourage business owners to examine new trends that can attract a larger number of customers. Consider using promotional opportunities that place a positive spotlight on products or services that you sell. Use local and national resources to advertise your business in an effective manner.
Free Workshops
Teach new skills to adults or children in a workshop setting that is free of charge. Get permission to use locations that have built-in attendance, such as local libraries or schools, to host your workshops. Frequently populated locations can reduce the effort needed to promote free workshops to the public. Focus on specific groups of potential customers when marketing workshops that will help advertise your business. For example, owners of retail stores that sell art supplies can teach painting or scrapbooking workshops, while photographers can host classes that offer modeling techniques.
Publicized Charity Donations
Send photos or press releases depicting your company’s involvement with charity events to print, radio and television media outlets. Sponsoring a charity event by donating goods or money provides automatic advertising advantages based on your association with specific organizations. Opportunities to highlight your charitable actions are available through banner displays, promotional giveaways and trade awards during these events. Corporate sponsorships are brilliant advertising ideas that increase media attention by encouraging journalists to make extended communities aware of your charitable acts.
Major Event Television Spots
Make a deal with television stations to promote your business during the commercial break of special events. Broadcast and cable channels sell premium commercial spots that are displayed during major events such as championship sports games, award ceremonies and popular television shows. These special events usually attract a record number of audiences, providing advertisers with greater potential for obtaining new customers. Contact the advertising department of cable companies to purchase television spots directly. You can also hire an advertising agency or media buying firm to purchase commercial airtime on your behalf.
Some media agencies have relationships with television networks and can negotiate lower prices for commercial spots that cannot be obtained otherwise. Hire a video production company or filmmaker to create television commercials for your business if necessary. Television spots during special events are brilliant advertising ideas that increase opportunities to receive additional publicity from print media following the air date of your commercial.
